Wigan’s new £500 million academy facility will include the home of one of England’s most popular football clubs
Wigan Athletic have announced plans to open a £500m academy facility at their current ground, the Oriel Park.
The academy, which will also include a youth academy, will be located at the new Wigan Stadium.
Wigan’s development academy has a reputation for producing some of the best young footballers in the country.
Manager Stuart Pearce confirmed the academy will be built at the Wigan Park, which is owned by the Wigmore Group.
He said: “I have a great relationship with the owners of the Wigsons and they are committed to investing in this academy and building the next generation of footballers.”
We are excited to bring the new academy facility to the Wigans’ existing stadium at Oriel, which has hosted many top-flight footballers over the years, including Jamie Carragher, Andy Cole, Sam Allardyce and Wayne Rooney.
“It will also be home to one of the top youth academies in the world.”
